This FREE Screening of inspirational film Wadja (PG) is the answer!
Bike Belles are launching our 2017 programme of activities with a FREE screening the inspirational film Wadjda.
The film tells the story of Wadjda, a young girl in Saudi Arabia whose heart is set on buying and riding a bike. The backdrop of the film shows a world where women’s lives are controlled by men and the bike represents a chance of freedom and empowerment to Wadjda. This touching, funny and inspiring story will help remind you what you love about cycling and motivate you to get back on your bike in 2017.
Before the film we will give a short talk about our up and coming activities for 2017 and their will even be a FREE PRIZE DRAW where you could win a fun bag full of cycle accessories to get you set up for the year of cycling ahead.
Wadjda film screening is a joint venture between Sunderland University through the University Chaplain, Chris Howson, and Sustrans Go Smarter Sunderland Bike Belles.
What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
The cinema, up the spiral staircase on to the first floor, then follow the corridor out of the building and along a balcony before re-entering the building at the cinema entrance.
- By Bike - The Bike Dock is located on the river front on National Cycle Network Route 7 (Coast to Coast). We have a secure storage area you can leave your bike in for the duration of the activity if it’s not a ride that is! There are also multiple bike racks you can use if you bring your own lock.
- By Car - follow signs for the National Glass Centre, Liberty Way, Sunderland SR6 0GL.
- Parking - the National Glass Centre has a large free carpark which can be used. The University of Sunderland also has a large carpark but charges do apply. Please check the information boards for the most up to date information about charges.
- By Metro – The nearest metro is St. Peter’s and is approximately 10 minutes away.
How much does the event cost?
Nothing! This project is supported by the Director of Public Health Sunderland and as such the running costs have been covered.
