Bike Maintenance Training IIa: Bearings
Sat 22 April 2017, 09:30 – 16:00 BST
Completed Bike Maintenance Course I or already know the basics? Take your skills to the next level.
This hands-on course will concentrate on bearings.
We will discuss the symptoms of wear, and how to make adjustments. You will learn how to strip and rebuild traditional threaded wheel bearings, headset bearings and bottom brackets using bearing races or loose ball bearings; we will also look at non-threaded headsets, cartridge bearings and the different kinds of bottom bracket.
It would be helpful if you brought your own bike so that the day can be tailored to your own needs.
YOU MUST RESERVE A SPOT AND PAY TO ATTEND THIS WORKSHOP
This event is a one day Training Session taking place on Saturday 22nd April 2017. This is a bit different than our normal sessions which provide free help, tools, and basic materials for repairs because it is for training volunteers to help out at these sessions throughout the year. So if you want to learn bike maintenance skills and practice them, this is the workshop for you. Attendees can also progress to achieve further qualifications via Bike Pool including international bike maintenance standards Velotech Bronze, Velotech Gold, Bike Leader and Bike Trainer through Bike Pool later in the year.
What you need to know: It is a full day session, including a break for lunch, running 10:00-16:30 in the Nisbet Room (in the Main Facilities Building) at DRAFP Halls.
If you are a new volunteer, the course costs £15, and we will give you £5 back if you help out at one session during the semester.
If you are already a volunteer with us, this course will be offered for free. Just check the appropriate box on the Eventbrite link :).
The course will be small and very hands-on with only 5 slots each day.
What you need to do: Please book on the Eventbrite link to confirm a place and day. If you are interested but unable to do this weekend then get in contact and we may be able to accomadate alternate dates. If the course does not run then booking fees will be refunded or you will be offered a slot on the alternative day.
