Event description

Description

Welcome to the Bikeability Scotland Conference 2020, hosted by Cycling Scotland, exclusively for Bikeability Scotland Instructors and Coordinators from across Scotland.

Following on from successful events in 2019, the day will provide an opportunity to attend practical sessions, with a focus on the recent update to the National Standard for Cycle Training and the implications for Bikeability Scotland delivery. As always, there will also be plenty of time for networking, knowledge sharing and catching-up over lunch!

The workshops available will be as follows:

  • Updates to Practice - Delivering Level 1 Bikeability Scotland Training (outdoors) - This practical workshop highlights the updates to the National Standard for Cycle Training in relation to Level 1 Bikeability Scotland training. The session will focus on making training more dynamic, and will include moving groups in an off-road environment, and riding the Ultimate Circuit! We will finish with a group discussion and time for questions and answers, and feedback.

  • Updates to Practice - Delivering Level 2 Bikeability Scotland Training (outdoors) - This practical workshop highlights the updates to the National Standard for Cycle Training in relation to Level 2 Bikeability Scotland training. After an initial group discussion, we will take to our bikes to road test some of the ideas - including communication, priorities, hazard perception and using questions to check understanding. The session will finish with time for questions and answers, and feedback.

The same workshops will run in the morning and afternoon sessions.

Please select your preference for the morning and afternoon sessions when registering and only sign up to each workshop once.

Stirling will be the only conference destination in 2020, but please be aware that in order to share these training updates as widely as possible, there will be a series of regional CPD workshops later in the year.

FAQs

Who is the event for?

The Bikeability Scotland Conferences are for Bikeability Scotland Instructors and Coordinators. If you wish to train to become a volunteer instructor, in order to deliver Bikeability Scotland cycle training in schools and attend future conferences, please click here for more information.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

There is ample on-site parking available. A small fee of £2 per day applies (coins only). Wherever possible, the event organiser would encourage delegates to arrive by bike, on foot and/or by public transport. Travel and parking expense claim forms will be available on the day to complete and submit to cover reasonable costs.

Do I need to bring a bike to the event?

No, however, you are very welcome to bring your own, and there will be outdoor bike parking at the venue - just remember to bring a lock!

What if the weather is bad?

All sessions will include some practical elements delivered outdoors, on bikes, so please prepare by bringing along lots of spare warm and waterproof clothing. If it is unsafe to ride outside (e.g. icy conditions), an indoor alternative will be offered.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

The event organiser will have a full list of delegates and respective workshop choices at registration, however for your own convenience and to avoid unnecessary delays, you are encouraged to bring your printed ticket with you.

What should I do if I've signed up but later become unable to attend?

In the event that you're unable to attend, please contact davidcollins@cycling.scot at the earliest opportunity. This will allow your place to be freed up and offered to someone else.

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?

Please address any questions regarding this event to davidcollins@cycling.scot
