¡Bilingualism DOES Matter! - Inverness
Tue 1 November 2016, 16:00 – 18:00 GMT
SCILT is delighted to be able to offer a series of national workshops in collaboration with Bilingualism Matters and Glasgow City Council’s EAL Service.
Are you wondering how to engage your bilingual leaners more and support literacy skills across both languages? Professor Antonella Sorace (Bilingualism Matters) will present the latest research findings, focusing on the array of benefits of bilingualism. Maria Walker (Glasgow City Council) will offer a wealth of practical strategies teachers can use to promote bilingualism in their classrooms. Angela de Britos (SCILT) will look at how celebrating and nurturing mother tongue languages is vital to the academic and holistic development of children and young people, to narrow the achievement gap and ‘get it right for every child’. Recognising that the linguistic and cultural demography of Scotland’s schools is changing, these free workshops are aimed at practitioners from Early Years to the Secondary phase.
