Crosslinguistic Nonword Repetition Workshop
Following a brief review of background theory and research, this hands-on session will provide training in administering and scoring the Crosslinguistic Nonword Repetition test and consider the implications of test performance. We will invite CEN members to contribute to data collection and discuss arrangements to take this forward.
Afternoon session: Professor Victoria Joffe
Evidence Based Practice in speech and language therapy (SLT): developing critical appraisal skills and maximising engagement in the evidence base
The Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) profession is committed to evidence based practice (EBP) and practitioners are expected to engage in research and use evidence to inform practice. EBP involves undertaking research, as well as critically evaluating research and using it to shape clinical practice.
This workshop will explore the components of EBP and practice based evidence (PBE), and the critical role of speech and language therapists in this process. The skills and knowledge required to critically evaluate and review research will be highlighted and delegates will have the opportunity to practice their critical appraisal skills using the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP) on selected peer reviewed papers. Delegates will be encouraged to consider different opportunities to share service level data for wider dissemination and publication, and to contribute to building the evidence base in the SLT profession.
We are not able to provide refreshments or lunch but you are welcome to bring your own. There are also a number of coffee places both within the university and in the surrounding area.
