Saturday 20 September
Meet at What if?, Hardman Street, Edgeley, Stockport
Pauline Johnston ( Civic and Social/An Actions Common CIC) is helping to coordinate the development of What if? as a community hub for ideas and actions to flourish and for social and climate resilience to be baked into the neighbourhood – and she invites you on a gentle mooch around the neighbourhood to explore the what if? and what ifs?
Together we’ll notice something unusual: the current absence of advertising in our streets. Why is that? And as regeneration approaches, we’ll ask:
- Will the area around Hollywood Park and Edgeley become more attractive to advertisers and commercial interests?
- How might consumer messages affect our shared spaces?
- What role can residents play now to set a different path?
- What are our community “red lines” when it comes to public space?
On the day
- Walk & Talk Session 1 – 11:00am–12:30pm
- Walk & Talk Session 2 – 1:00pm–2:30pm
(each session includes a neighbourhood walk, brew & biscuits, and a preview of the Billboard Dystopia exhibition – 90 minutes total)
This is part of Billboard Dystopia’s Greater Manchester residency, visiting three venues:
- What if?, Edgeley, Stockport (20–21 Sept)
- Altogether Otherwise, NOMA, Manchester (22 Sept–12 Oct)
- Sustainable Ventures, Manchester Piccadilly (13–14 Oct)
Also at What if?
Sunday 21 September, 12–4pm – Neighbourhood Social: hot food, games, and imagining opportunities for rest and play in the building, garden and around Hollywood Park area.
