Event description

2019 is the year we have the first parts of an International BIM Standard, ISO 19650, join us to learn more....

  • Are you looking to sharpen your understanding of BIM and Digital Engineering?

  • Want to understand how Geospatial Professionals can add value to BIM?

  • Want to understand the basics of 'BIM Level 2' (and where things are heading) - such as ISO 19650?

  • What to know more about BIM, Digital Engineering, Internet of Things (IoT)?

Alternative Locations:

Not near this location? We have these courses scheduled for the UK >more details

On-site Training: We can offer this course on-site at your offices (or at a nearby location) for your colleagues, associates or clients. Contact us to learn more. Also, please get in touch if you are outside the UK, we are happy to discuss your needs.

"GeoEnable provides very impressive BIM training. The tutor was extremely knowledgeable and shows real expertise and experience in BIM field, and he is willing to help at all times even after the course. Very pleased with the service and will fully recommend."

(Dec 2015 course attendee)

"In November 2016 I attended the ‘BIM for Geospatial Professionals’ course run by GeoEnable.

The course was lively and engaging and I came away with exactly what I had hoped for: a clear understanding of what BIM is and how GIS fits into the BIM project framework and workflow, an insight into the challenges experienced within a BIM project, resources to further my knowledge and also some ideas of how I can develop my technical skills to be better prepared for future work.

It was a theory based course and would give other technically minded people the context they might not necessarily have but would definitely benefit from."

(Nov 2016 course attendee)

  • Who is this for? This course is for existing Geospatial and Geomatics Professionals, such as CAD modellers, GIS, mapping, geotechnical, remote sensing & survey professionals, who wants to learn more about BIM and Digital Engineering.

  • Your experience level with wider BIM concepts: Novice (little experience) to Advanced beginner

  • Course Style: Classroom Seminar (tutor taught with interactive sessions) and Post-course online Consultation. This course is not a hands-on technical training session.

  • BIM and Asset Infromation - In this course BIM is used in the widest sense - for information modelling/management, process improvement and organisational change management, it's NOT just about 3D/4D models. It's about understanding how Digital Construction / VDC and Digital Engineering fits with existing Geospatial disciplines and techniques. As well as understanding the need for the whole-life cycle management (physical) assets requires the whole-life cycle management of asset information.

  • Exclusive Session: Places are limited to ensure best learning outcomes with a small group.

  • Lunch included: This course includes lunch and tea & coffee throughout the day.

  • Tutor: Steven Eglinton BSc (Hons), FBCS, FBCart.S, MIoD, MPWI

    Director, GeoEnable and BIM Enable

Steven is a very experienced geospatial information management and digital transformation specialist with almost 20 years' experience of strategic definition, Project Management & hands-on solutions implementation, particularly within the Built Environment and Natural Environment sectors.

His background is in mapping, Geospatial solutions and GIS, but now consults on Information Management (IM) in the widest context. Most often Steven works with Architecture, Engineering, Construction, Owner Operator (AECOO) clients - such as property developers, Rail and Utilities companies.

Steven currently works across the 'Digital Engineering' (BIM) and Geospatial / Geomatics domains in these roles:

    • Principal Tutor in BIM at the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE)

    • Chair, BIM4 Infrastructure UK

Steven is an accomplished public speaker and event Chair, for events covering theme such as Geospatial solutions, Rail industry, Infrastructure Construction and Building Information Modelling (BIM)

  • 08:30 to 09:15 - Arrivals and Coffee

  • 09:30 - Course Start

  • 13:00 - Lunch (included in fee)

  • 16:30 - Course End

We encourage you to take these follow-up calls to gain greater value from your learning experience.

What we cover on the day:

  • Overview to Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Digital Engineering concepts

  • Overview to Whole-Life Asset Management (PAS 55 & ISO 55000) concepts

  • Introduction to UK Government 'BIM Level 2' Standards and International BIM Standarda - BS/PAS 1192 series and ISO 19650 parts 1 & 2

  • Geo-Enabling BIM processes – location data providing context and a common reference

  • Common Data Environments (CDEs) Vs Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDIs)

  • 3D Visualisation - requirements for 'BIM Level 2'

  • What is meant by 'BIM Level 2', 'BIM Level 3' etc

  • Open BIM Data Standards e.g. IFC, COBie

  • How Geospatial adds value to BIM

  • Data and Asset Classifications (Taxonomies)

  • Web GIS as a way in - opportunities to link with BIM concepts
