Event description

BIM Mastery - Taking your next step in BIM and Digital Engineering

Want to know how to write Exchange/Employer's Information Requirements (EIRs) or a BIM Execution Plan (BEP)?

This course is intended for those who already understand basic BIM principals, or as a follow-on from our 'BIM 101' beginners’ course, to get hands-on with understanding what documents, processes and standards are required for “Building information modelling (BIM) according to the ISO 19650 series” (equivalent to "BIM Level 2" in the UK)

NEED AN INTRO TO BIM FIRST? Why not join us at our 'BIM 101' course >READ MORE

GEOSPATIAL PROFESSIONAL? If you are a GIS, Geospatial, mapping, Survey, Geomatics Professional - we offer a variation on this course to YOU >READ MORE

“Building information modelling (BIM) according to the ISO 19650 series” is about getting benefit through better specification and delivery of just the right amount of information concerning the design, construction and management of buildings and infrastructure, using appropriate technology tools.

If you want to advance your practical implementation of Building information modelling (BIM) according to the ISO 19650 series and understand more in plain English, with no jargon – this is the course for you!

Join us to advance your journey into the understanding and implementation of the wider sense of BIM, in a safe environment. There is a mixture or seminar and hands-on exercises.

This course is intentionally kept to a small group for the best learning outcomes. Your Tutor will be available for follow-up calls - up to 6 weeks after the course - for any extra questions.

Note - As with all our BIM courses - we mean 'BIM' as in the UK’s 'BIM Level 2' mandate and ISO 19650 - information management, processes and change management. This course is NOT about 3D/4D CAD modelling, nor specific technologies.

  • Exclusive Session: Places are limited to ensure best learning outcomes with a small group.

  • Lunch included: This course includes lunch and tea & coffee throughout the day.

  • Tutor: The Tutor is a very experienced information management, digital transformation and geospatial specialist with 20 years' experience of strategic definition, Project Management & hands-on solutions implementation, particularly within the Built Environment and Natural Environment sectors. His background is in mapping, Geospatial solutions and GIS, but now consults on corporate-wide and board-level Information Management (IM), BIM and Business Intelligence (BI). Most often he works with Central Government and Architecture, Engineering, Construction, Owner Operator (AECOO) clients - such as property developers, Rail and Utilities companies

Testimonial for our training:

"...The course was lively and engaging and I came away with exactly what I had hoped for: a clear understanding of what BIM is... resources to further my knowledge and also some ideas of how I can develop my technical skills to be better prepared for future work.

It was a theory based course and would give other technically minded people the context they might not necessarily have but would definitely benefit from."

What we cover on the day:

  • A reminder to Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Digital Engineering concepts

  • Reminder of the UK Government 'BIM Level 2' Standards - BS/PAS 1192 series of standards that are currently published

  • Highlight the main differences between BS/PAS 1192 series and the International Standards ISO 19650 series (Parts 1 & 2, others in development)

  • Common Data Environments (CDEs) – what these are and options for implementation in detail with examples

  • Processes – exercise to write data processes / flows

  • Exchange (or Employer's) Information Requirements (EIRs) - exercise to write an EIR

  • BIM Execution Plans (BEPs) - exercise to write an BEP

  • Asset Information Requirements (AIRs) - exercise to look at examples of AIRs

  • Project Information Requirements (PIRs) - hands-on exercise to write these

  • Organisational Information Requirements (OIRs) - exercise to write OIRs

  • IFC / COBie - Data Exchange Standards - exercise to look at examples of COBie

  • Data and Asset Classifications (Taxonomies) - Group discussion on how these work for you

  • Information Management (IM) as a dedicated function and processes - advise how to embed IM / BIM

  • Information Portals – sharing the re-using data - examples of GIS and other data-sharing portals

  • Summary and Review of Learnings

Follow-up calls:

This course is a classroom-based seminar with the option of follow-up calls for 6 weeks (1 per week) with the Tutor, to help clarify and questions and assist you accelerate change and embed what you have learnt in your business. We encourage you to take these follow-up calls to gain greater value from your learning experience.
