Review of CIC BIM Protocol by its author; perspective of BIM by ex-Senior VP of HOK London, and a special look at BIM in post-Brexit Britain

About this Event

Registration and Welcome

From Norton Rose Fulbright partner Richard Hill

The CIC’s BIM Protocol

Senior Associate Andrew Croft, a Construction lawyer at specialist construction, engineering and infrastructure law firm Beale & Co will talk through the revisions made last year to the CIC BIM Protocol, the main UK industry form agreement for use in connection with BIM. Andrew has a particular interest in BIM, having contributed to the 2011 Government BIM Strategy Paper and having been involved in the drafting of the CIC BIM Protocol. Andrew is a BIM4Legal committee member.

The Second Edition of the CIC Protocol has been very well received and includes a number of key updates to the first edition.

Andrew will give an outline of the CIC Protocol, summarise the key changes in the Second Edition and provide practical tips on using the Protocol and his thoughts on the contractual landscape in relation to BIM.

The Architect’s perspective

Architect David King has extensive experience of the entire design process. Formerly Director and Senior Vice President for HOK London, where he was responsible for project delivery office-wide, and a member of the firm-wide Project Delivery Board, his role included responsibility for maintaining high quality technical production standards on overall responsibility for strategy in digital information management (BIM). David is a member of the CIC BIM Forum and CIC Liability Panel.

David will talk through ~

· BIM – Virtual modelling in a collaborative environment with computable interoperable data?

· Maturity Level 2 – means what to you?

· Design Architect or Design Team Lead – to what purpose?

· Innovative technology – the need to focus on effective collection, communication and management of data.

· Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) – the next step in the collaborative approach?

How we can promote the UK Construction industry (and BIM) in post-Brexit Britain

Norton Rose Fulbright partner Glenn Hall spent the last two years as Special Adviser to the UK Minister for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. Glenn returned to Norton Rose Fulbright in September 2018 and is Co-Head of its UK Government Relations Practice at Norton Rose Fulbright.

In our final presentation of the day, Glenn will offer some thoughts and ideas on How we can promote the UK Construction industry (and BIM) in post-Brexit Britain. The Government’s flagship Industrial Strategy, its Sector Deals (and Construction Sector Deal in particular) and the ‘Four Grand Challenges’ together map out a route towards success.

But ~ what else is needed?
