Event description

Description

Biochar: Battling Climate Change will raise awareness with a focus on dealing with the challenges and actions to address our climate crisis.

Joint event with Bright Green Business, CeeD_Scotland & Midlothian & East Lothian Chamber of Commerce. Come and learn all about Biochar - an additive that can be used to mitigate climate change through carbon capture & storage and enhancing the efficiency of renewable biogas production.

Public understanding, use and promotion could help biochar enter the wider market. In order to encourage a Circular Economy, attendees may be interested in providing feedstocks to stop useful material going to land fill. The greater understanding could help public devote resources and time to Biochar. As a result Biochar can become an effective climate mitigation tool.

Confirmed speakers include;

Hamish Creber, University of Edinburgh and Forest Research-a PhD student between GeoSciences and Forest Research supervised by Saran Sohi and Mike Perks.

Dr Jan Mumme, CEO & Co-founder of Carbogenics. Carbogenics' innovative low carbon process converts low-value paper waste like take-away cups, cardboard, mixed paper into CreChar- a carbon-rich additive that enhances the stability and efficiency of renewable biogas production by up to 15%.

Julian Bell, Senior Rural Business Consultant at SAC Consulting.

There will be the opportunity to tour the University of Edinburgh Biochar Research Centre. The centre allows scientists to produce large quantities of biochar from a wide variety of different agricultural and forestry materials.The biochar will then be used in trials at sites across the UK and around the world. The perfect step to mitigate climate change.

Don't forget to bring your business cards!
