Description

IPIECA will run the fourth Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services peer-to-peer training workshop: Managing Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services issues in the oil and gas industry on 30-31 May 2018, hosted by Eni and SAPIA. Please note that the location of the workshop has changed to Sandton, South Africa.

This workshop is part of a series that has been developed by IPIECA, in collaboration with the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (IOGP), and the United Nations Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC). The training is aimed at, and delivered by, oil and gas professionals and has been designed to be highly interactive to facilitate learning.

The objectives of the workshop are to:

  • Provide a broad introduction to Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (BES) principles and fundamental training in the management of BES issues across the life-cycle of oil and gas operations, including screening, scoping, baseline assessment, impact assessment, management and mitigation, monitoring and reporting.
  • Increase awareness and uptake of the latest approaches, good practices and tools in the BES arena – in particular IPIECA, IOGP and UNEP-WCMC products, leading to improved performance of the sector in the management of BES issues.
  • Provide an opportunity to share practical examples from peers.

The workshop will provide a particular opportunity to engage the oil and gas sector on the topic of BES issue management in Africa.
