Celebrate Biodiversity with National Museums Scotland

About this event

Suitable for: Primary 4-7 classes

Cost: Free of charge and available to UK-based schools only. Please note that as our sessions are designed to support delivery of the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence, we will cancel any bookings made by schools based outside the UK.

Description: From 8–12 March, take part in our focused week of free biodiversity activities for pupils learning at home or in school. Activities will be accessible throughout the week, so your class can link in at a time that suits them. By booking, you will gain access to:

• A 20 minute film by our Learning Enabler team on Biodiversity: Life in Scotland, allowing pupils to explore our museum collections up close and discover the biodiversity of their local areas. This is hosted on Vimeo and subtitles will be available.

• A biodiversity related activity for each day of the week, Monday-Friday, which you can continue to use afterwards. These activities will be shared as PDF files and web links.

• The opportunity to follow along live each day with our Twitter account @NMSEngage where we’ll share more resources, engage with your class tweets, and answer any questions.

By the end of the week pupils will understand that there are a wide variety of living things on our planet, and through focusing on Scotland specifically will see how all living things rely on each other. As part of the film your class will learn about four different ecosystems in Scotland through objects, games and microscopic imagery and we will investigate Scotland’s biodiversity as an example of interdependence in ecosystems. Accompanying activities will allow your class to explore the wider issues around biodiversity. We’ll share all the activities and film with you by Thursday 4 March, so you have time to plan for the week ahead.
