About this event
Join researchers from UCL’s Institute of Healthcare Engineering for a fun, hands-on workshop exploring the hidden world of bacteria and the challenges of antimicrobial resistance.
This session is perfect for students in Years 11-13 who are curious about studying Biology, Medicine, and related subjects at university.
Over 90 minutes, you’ll:
· Take part in a series of mini-lectures that bridge A-level biology with real university-level research.
· Learn about the threats posed by antimicrobial resistance (AMR), what biofilms are, and how bacteria can move through the built environment.
· Get hands-on with a “Blast a Biofilm” activity - using sweets and jelly to build your own biofilm and test just how much harder it is to treat bacteria when they live in these protective communities.
· Chat with our volunteers, who are studying or have studied biosciences at university and gone on to careers in research, lecturing, science policy, and the pharmaceutical industry.
