Event description

Description

At the heart of Play, bridging the gap between Science and Practice with Natalie Hadiprodjo (formerly Natalie Prichard).

This one-day training event will provide an overview of several key principles that have emerged from recent neuroscientific research. An understanding of the biological mechanisms that underpin creative therapies can aid your confidence as a therapist and provide a more complete picture of what you do and why.

The training will include:

• An elementary overview of the brain and nervous system, the parts of the brain which are involved in play and in the therapeutic relationship
• An overview of neurobiological-informed theories and their application to creative therapies
• An introduction to some of the play therapists applying these principles in writing, research & practice
• Case Examples. Presentation of 4 exploratory real-world case studies applying the polyvagal perspective to play therapy via the analysis of real-time heart rate and heart rate variability of therapist and child during therapy.

Natalie studied play therapy at the University of Roehampton and is currently in the final stages of completing her PhD. Her research has focused on several exploratory case studies incorporating heart rate variability measures into narrative story stem assessment and play therapy intervention.
Natalie initially trained as an occupational therapist and counsellor and has worked across adult mental health, developmental paediatric, clinical and therapeutic school settings.

This event is suitable for qualified or trainee counsellors and therapists from all disciplines, particularly those interested in creative or play based therapies.

The information presented will be relevant to all therapists, particularly those working with children and young people.

A networking lunch will be included.
