14:20 – 15:20 Keynote: Dr Mike Shaw (National Physical Laboratory, London), 'Multiscale 3D fluorescence imaging: from super-resolution to light field microscopy'

Abstract: The innovative optical microscopy techniques developed in recent years have greatly enhanced our ability to use light to visualize and study biological systems. However, despite these advances, fundamental limitations remain, notably in terms of spatio-temporal resolution, depth penetration, photodamage and imaging throughput. In this presentation I will discuss the current state of the art in high resolution 3D fluorescence microscopy, including super-resolution and light sheet methods, and describe how computational imaging techniques such as light field microscopy can further extend the capacity of an optical microscope for volumetric bioimaging across scales of length and time.
