Biosecurity best practice at Plas Tan y Bwlch

Programme Outline:

In this course we will be looking at biosecurity best practise in tree nurseries including a tour Plas Tan y Bwlch which is UKISG compliant, examining the precautions they take to prevent the introduction of harmful pests and pathogens.

The morning session is class-based and will look at pathways for pests, pathogens and procedures to reduce the risk of their introduction to your nursery.

The afternoon will consist of a tour of the Plas Tan y Bwlch tree nursery and a discussion around biosecurity best practice.

In order to tackle the climate crisis, we support saving local heritage tree seeds and propagation for local projects in Wales. This workshop is part of a training program to enable Welsh communities to register tree seed clusters, collect tree seeds from healthy trees and set up their own tree nurseries to provide saplings for local tree planting projects.
