Event description

Description

As part of the RAPID LIFE project, we are pleased to invite you to a biosecurity workshop which is designed to provide the tools needed to manage the threat of Invasive Non-Native Species (INNS).

This workshop is aimed at anyone involved with managing sites or organising activities within the Wash with the aim to be able to begin the formation of a Wash wide biosecurity plan. For example, this workshop would be appropriate for:

• Coastal managers

• Sailing clubs / angling clubs

• Marine conservation groups / local volunteer groups

• Surveyors

• Marine researchers/project officers

• Authorities with responsibility for the coastal areas, e.g. IFCA, MMO etc.

INNS can cause major impacts at marine sites and there is a need to enact good biosecurity procedures to prevent them from gaining a foothold or spreading. By the end of this workshop you will be able to create a plan that can govern your own sites biosecurity and we will have started the process towards creating a Wash wide plan.

In the morning session we will discuss the issues related to INNS, how we can prevent them from spreading through good biosecurity practice and we will discuss how to write site/event specific biosecurity plans.

The afternoon will be used to discuss ideas on how a Wash wide plan could be developed and work, as well as to draft plans and actions that could be put into place to facilitate a Wash Biosecurity Plan.

Lunch will be provided and refreshments will be available throughout the day. An agenda will be provided prior to the event. The is limited parking at the WNDA venue which will be on a first come first served basis. Parking is available within Kings Lynn. The venue is close to both the bus and train station.

If anyone currently has a biosecurity plan either in use or in draft form, and is happy to discuss this at the meeting, please get in touch with the organiser.
