Event description
Carlton Marshes: Come and enjoy an enjoyable day learning how to distinguish the different birds to be found out on the marshes.

About this Event

During an interactive indoor session, experienced local birder, Paddy Shaw will help you develop your bird identification techniques, cover useful resources (field guides, websites) as well as optics and basic field craft. You will then have a chance to explore the wonders of Carlton Marshes and put your new found skills into practice.

Paddy Shaw is Projects Officer for Waveney Bird Club and leads on the Waveney Swifts initiative. He has been a birder for more than 20 years and has led guided walks for 8 years. He has also co-lead birding trips abroad, including Portugal, Bulgaria, Poland and Hungary. He is Higher Education Leader for East Coast College, where he has been responsible for the development of many degree programmes in partnership with the University of Suffolk.

Wigeon, teal and pintail on the new Peto's Marsh and stonechat are among some of the species you can expect to see with the unmistakable sight of the marsh harrier ghosting over reedbeds almost guaranteed. So there will be plenty to hone your skills on.

You will need to bring:·    A packed lunch and refreshments·    Binoculars if you have them·    A pad & pen·    A camera if you wish

COVID-19 INFORMATION

In order to run activity sessions safely while the COVID-19 pandemic is still in effect, there are a number of restrictions put in place, which are in the best interest of our participants, staff and volunteers. We appreciate you following the guidelines we have set out.

More detailed information will be outlined in your confirmation email once you have booked onto this course, however, it is important that you read and agree to the following information before you book.

  • During the session you will be required to socially distance at the Government recommended 2m.
  • All participants will be required to use sanitising hand gel on arrival. This will be provided and will be available for you to use at any additional points during the day, should you wish to.
  • If you are showing ANY signs or symptoms of COVID-19, or you have been told by NHS Track and Trace to isolate, you must not attend this event.
  • Please note that due to the change in government guidance on Covid-19, it will be necessary for everyone to use a face covering in the centre during the day. If you wish, you will be able to remove your face coverings when you are safely seated, but you will be required to put them back on whenever you rise from your seat. As face coverings become saturated over time, we ask that you each bring a new one with you to change into at lunchtime. We will supply a few disposable masks for anyone who is unable to bring sufficient face coverings with them.

We will unfortunately be unable to serve refreshments. Please feel free to bring your own drinks. Thank you for your understanding
