Join us for a morning at Merkinch to learn all about bird-ringing, with Jodie and Sandy from the Highland Bird Ringing Group.
Bird-ringing involves catching birds, securing a small metal ring around one of their legs, and ideally recording the bird’s species, age, sex, wing length and weight. Rings have a reference code inscribed on them that allows that particular bird to be uniquely identified if it is caught again in the future. Ringing provides valuable information which helps ecologists better understand and study birds.
We'll be running the session twice - please only sign up to one time slot by selecting your preferred time when ordering a ticket.
All levels of experience, interest, genders, and ages welcome. Come alone or with a pal! Lots of people come to our events on their own, and it's a great way to meet likeminded people.
