Bird Survey Training 12th April (changed from 7th April)
Wed 12 April 2017, 10:00 – 16:00 BST
This training session is for those wishing to help us gather important information on breeding birds at specific sites around Morecambe Bay (Lancashire adn Cumbria sites), to help with longterm monitoring of breeding birds (waders and passsarines). The urgency for recording breeding birds is recognised, and you could help gather vital information which then feeds into a wider programme of monitoring across the Bay. The first part of the training (the morning) is to look at mapping and notation of what you see out in the field. The afternoon session will be focusing on recognising behaviour and the ecology of breeding birds. From this training, volunteers will be visiting a site just 3 times through the breeding season, to capture information across three key times - early season ((end of April), mid season (3rd week in May) and late season (2nd week in June) - or as close to those periods as you can do! We will be encouraging people to pair up to help one another. Volunteers will have some knowledge of coastal/farmland birds already, and we hope to hone your existing skills. The session is an indoor and outdoor session so bring suitable clothing & footwear, as well as lunch. The project is co-ordinated by Jenny Holden-Wilde of Wilde Ecology on behalf of Morecambe Bay Partnership, and Jenny will be there to give the training, support and advice.
