Event description

Description

Spectacular Roman remains with a fort, bridge and one of the best-preserved milecastles on Hadrian’s Wall and a C14th Castle to finish.

Our walk follows the Hadrian’s Wall Path westwards passing the Poltross Burn milecastle, one of the best preserved on the wall, before descending to the remains of Willowford Bridge where the Roman Wall crossed the River Irthing and on to Birdoswald Roman Fort. The return route takes in Gilsland Spa, the Irthing Gorge and the 14th-century Thirlwall Castle before returning to Greenhead, with a welcome cuppa in prospect.

Please dress for changeable weather, wear walking boots or shoes and bring drinks and snacks. Whilst well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome, please take note of any specific instructions by the walk leader and the concerns of others. If you have not already booked online, please pay on arrival.
