Birmingham Air Raid Remembrance Association ( BARRA) are guests of the Friends of Key Hill cemetery & Warstone Lane cemetery who will be conducting unique interior catacomb tours in both cemeteries for an early V.E day event on Saturday 4 May.

This is where you can find out more about the Birmingham Air Raid Remebrance Association - (BARRA ) and their work in remembering the impact of air raids in Birmingham and find the name of those civilians whose lost their lives during the Birmingham Blitz.
Don't miss this opportunity to honor the past and educate yourself on this significant part of history.
You are welcome to book one free ticket per household/ Family / Friends to visit the BARRA stall.

Tours of Warstone Lane cemetery catacombs and Key Hill cemetery interior catacombs require booking separately, via Eventbrite or via www.fkwc.org
The catacombs in both cemeteries were used as Air Raid Shelters during WWII.

Also join Natural Science Curator for a WW2 Walking Tour exploring the plants & fungi & how they were used during the war when food was in short supply.


ALL TOURS on this one day only will leave from the Friends information stall in Warstone Lane cemetery.
Revenue from these tours will aid the Friends Grave Restoration Fund for damaged & broken graves.



Birmingham Air Raids Remembrance Association is a registered charity with the aim of constructing a suitable memorial to commemorate the 2241 people who lost their lives during the Second World War bombing of Birmingham between the 9th August 1940 and 23rd April 1943.

This was achieved on 8 October 2005, with the unveiling of the Tree of Life Memorial in Edgbaston Street near St Martins in the Bullring and the historic Bull Ring Markets

BARRA is also committed to the education of the public in the events that took place in this city during the Birmingham Blitz.
The group are continuing to provide talks, exhibitions and educational support to local groups, schools and colleges and attend history fairs.
BARRA also collate the wartime experiences and recollections of those who lived through the war, so that their past can be shared with future generations.

How do I get to Warstone Lane cemetery?

Getting here: Train and Tram stops at the Jewellery Quarter Station in Vyse Street , Hockley Bus 8a, 8c and 101 from Birmingham city centre to Chamberlain clock at Warstone Lane walk to Vyse Street, Bus 16 &74 to Great Hampton Street. Car – Multi-storey car park in Vyse Street.

Are there any facilities in the cemetery?

The Friends of Key Hill cemetery & Warstone Lane cemetery will hire a porta loo for the day. There are not any facilities in either Warstone Lane cemetery or neigbouring Key Hill cemetery. There are several, cafe's, bars and restaurants nearby

Guided Cemetery Tours of both Warstone Lane Cemetery & Key Hill Cemetery are the second Sunday of the month except for December.

All tours require pre-booking .

Warstone Lane Cemetery Tours at 11.50 am for a 12 noon start

Key Hill Cemetery Tours at 1.50pm for a 2pm start .

Each cemetery tour last about 1 and half to 2 hours depending on Q & A.

Guided Interior Catacombs Tours are only certain times of the year and time slots differ from cemetery tours.

These are no facilities in the cemeteries but plenty of café, restaurants and bars nearby.
