The annual Official Launch of Birmingham Black History Month (BHM) at The Drum in partnership with Birmingham City Council seeks to celebrate the achievements, contributions and struggles of African, Asian and Caribbean people within the context of their diversity and heritage.

As 2015 is the 50th anniversary of the passing of the first Race Relations Act in the UK, to address racial discrimination as well as the significant visit of Malcom X to Smethwick earlier in 1965.

The launch programme will consist of a drinks reception with Young Drum opening the evening with a showcase of their work. Followed by the opening of  RACE 50 Photographic exhibition. Dr Kehinde Andrews will deliver a keynote speech on Malcolm X's visit and attitudes to racial discrimination have changed in Birmingham and the rest of the UK since the Act.
