Birmingham Global Gov Jam - 2016
Tue, 31 May 2016, 18:00 – Thu, 2 Jun 2016, 16:00 BST
Tuesday 31 May - Thursday 2 June 2016
A 48hr Design challenge will be set around the world! Ordinary people will bring together their personalities, ideas and skills to create something extraordinary.
The Gov Jam provides a unique space for citizens to come together with local government/public service professionals and prototype ideas for public services.
About the Event
After a super inspiring and eventful year of hosting four jams in Birmingham, we couldn't resist getting involved again and making sure Brum is represented in the Global Gov Jam community. The Global Jams are an innovative, creative and not for profit event made possible by a global community of doers and makers.
It's is a great way to meet new collaborators who are passionate about building a better Birmingham to try new techniques, have fun learning from each other and make new connections by working together.
How it works
Everyone gathers on Tuesday evening to discover a global theme, which is kept secret until jams all over the world have seen it.
We split into teams and work together through Wednesday and Thursday to design and prototype ideas inspired by the theme.
At 3pm on Thursday everyone shows what they've made and shares their work online with a Creative Commons License.
Tickets and Sponsorship
The ticket price helps us to cover costs for the venue, materials for prototyping, service design resources for inspiration and food. This means all you need to think about it enjoying the event, creating amazing ideas.
Could you sponsor the jam? Nobody makes a profit from the Birmingham Gov Jam. Your financial support will help us keep ticket costs down, and open up new possibilities.
1. What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
The Impact Hub is in Digbeth, Birmingham. The Hub is just a few minutes walk from Moor Street train station and Digbeth Coach Station, there is lots of parking nearby but be aware that it can be busy.
2. What are the hours of the jam?
The core hours of the jam will be:
Tuesday 31st May 2016 - 6pm to 9pm
Wednesday 1st June 2015 - 9:00am to 5pm
Thursday 2nd June 2015 - 9:00am to 4pm
3. What can/can't I bring to the event?
All you need to bring is yourself, your ideas and enthusiasm. But if you like you could add prototyping materials, cardboard, Lego, play dough, whatever you like. If you like prototyping digitally bring a laptop, camera or other relevant tech, along with cables chargers etc. The space may be busy and chaotic at times, so make sure you clearly mark anything you want to take home at the end of the event.
4. What about food and drink?
We'll provide snacks and tea/coffee-making facilities in the jam space for the entire event. On Tuesday there will be a finger food/snack style buffet and we will supply breakfast and lunch on Wednesday and Thursday.
5. What if I can't make the whole Jam?
You really need to be there on Tuesday evening for the kick-off and secret theme video, but after that some participants do just one of the other days - Wednesday or Thursday. Please let us know if you intend to do this so we can plan timings and manage the number of participants in the space.
6. What happens to the things we make during the jam?
At the end of the jam, we'll upload copies of the things we've made to planet jam (the jam’s website). Everything created during the jam will be released under a Creative Commons License.
7. Are there any other terms and conditions?
Birmingham's Gov Jam is part of the Global Gov Jam 2016. We ask all participants to confirm that they understand the jam terms and conditions.
