Session 1: Jonathan Allen - Extended Events
Session 2: Jonathan Allen - How to look after SQL Server without needing a DBA
Chris can no longer make it to present his 'Cloud OS for the Data Professional' session, so a huge thanks to Jonathan who has stepped up and will present a double session instead. We'll get Chris over early in 2015 to do this session, so you won't miss out.
6.15pm – 6:30pm Meet & Greet
6:30pm - 7:30pm Jonathan Allen - Extended Events
The voting has closed, and the winning session from all the votes was 'Extended Events'. Thanks for your votes!
Taking you from what Extended Events are and how they fit in with SQL Server, through using the default session to keep an eye on your servers to creating your own Event Sessions to check for important events and potential problems.
7:30pm - 8:00pm Break & Food
8:00pm – 9:00pm Jonathan Allen - How to look after SQL Server without needing a DBA
In this session we will look at how you can avoid some of the major pitfalls and problems that can catch you unexpectedly with SQL Server installations. We will complete a set of checks and routines that will prevent the worst issues such as missing or failed backups, performance issues and benchmarking from taking your server offline or causing lost profitability through data loss or slowdowns.
We'll be at the Midlands Art Centre (MAC Birmingham), B12 9QH.
It's directly opposite Edgebaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham
Parking: Lots or free parking, entrance is via Queens Ride, opposite the cricket ground
Public Transport: It's about 2 miles from New Street Station. Short taxi ride, or buses 1, 35, 45, 47, 62 & 63.
The 45 & 47 are the best options, which depart from outside Boots in the Bullring, opposite where the main entrance to New Street station was, on Smallbrook Queensway.
Room: When you get there, we're in the 'Pincent Masons 1' room. On the 1st floor, above the main entrance.
We'll be putting on food for the event, so please do register so we know numbers. If you then can't make it we'd really appreciate it if you'd unregister and/or let us know.

When & Where
SQLMidlands - Bringing the West Midlands SQL Server community together
We normally hold meetings every other month, usually on a Thursday after work at in the centre of Birmingham. It's an informal gathering of like minded people, with a couple of speakers presenting tips, techniques and information on old, new and upcoming technology. We like to get a mixture of world leading speakers as well as providing an opportunity for our members to present.
We tailor the speakers and sessions to your requests so if you have any specific topics that you want to go through, then come along and let us know.
If you've registered for an event and can no longer make it, please do unregister so that we don't over order the food! To unregister just view your tickets in your EventBrite account, and then cancel the relevant ticket. Thanks!
This event is kindly sponsored by Purple Frog Systems, if you need any Microsoft Business Intelligence help (Data Warehouses, ETL, Cubes, Azure, IoT, etc.), give them a call!
