6:30pm - 7:30pm Peter Moore - SQL Server Tips & Tricks
Hostage to the Software House: for some time, some years back; I worked in “tandem” with a software house. I say, in tandem, I worked they, erm, didn't. This meant that any change I needed to make had to be done in SQL alone. This is difficult but not impossible (if you're SQL Sneaky). Here, then, I present (a handful of) the SQL survival tricks I used.
7:30pm - 8:00pm Break & Food
8:00pm – 9:00pm Kieran Wood - Comparing and Contrasting Difference methods of querying PowerPivot / Tabular Model within an Excel worksheet. [SESSION CHANGE]
Different methods I intended to cover are; - Pivot Table, DAX Query and Cube Values.
Advantages / Disadvantages of the above in terms of; - Performance, skills required, maintainability, readability, stability.
Advantages / Disadvantages of above elements including Power BI Desktop.

The 45 & 47 are the best options, which depart from outside Boots in the Bullring, opposite where the main entrance to New Street station was, on Smallbrook Queensway.

My specialism is Data. I like bringing order to it. Typically I will approach a data source by: first looking at it, then making sense of it, and finally utilising it. The goal is (usually) to form a robust system that supports repeat interrogation.
Although my specialism is SQLServer, the passion burns for the data itself. I sometimes share the love at www.databackwriter.com or @factgasm
When & Where
SQLMidlands - Bringing the West Midlands SQL Server community together
We normally hold meetings every other month, usually on a Thursday after work at in the centre of Birmingham. It's an informal gathering of like minded people, with a couple of speakers presenting tips, techniques and information on old, new and upcoming technology. We like to get a mixture of world leading speakers as well as providing an opportunity for our members to present.
We tailor the speakers and sessions to your requests so if you have any specific topics that you want to go through, then come along and let us know.
If you've registered for an event and can no longer make it, please do unregister so that we don't over order the food! To unregister just view your tickets in your EventBrite account, and then cancel the relevant ticket. Thanks!
This event is kindly sponsored by Purple Frog Systems, if you need any Microsoft Business Intelligence help (Data Warehouses, ETL, Cubes, Azure, IoT, etc.), give them a call!
