In this session we'll look at the internal structure of the log, how some of your decisions around log file affect your system and gain a deeper understanding of log records. Finally we'll cover some myths around the log including touching on the difference between minimal and efficient logging.
7:30pm - 8:00pm Break & Food
8:00pm – 9:00pm Gavin Campbell- Approaches to database unit testing
An introduction to database unit testing incorporating Visual Studio Database Unit Tests with SSDT along with other tools.
Database testing can be challenging, for a number of reasons that will be touched on in this session. We will discuss the motivations for unit testing, as well as some of the particular challenges involved in testing database code and integrating this testing into the software development process. Over the years, a number of tools and approaches have been developed to address these difficulties, and we will draw comparisons between some of these in order to highlight the questions you need to consider in choosing a testing approach for your own projects.

When & Where
SQLMidlands - Bringing the West Midlands SQL Server community together
We normally hold meetings every other month, usually on a Thursday after work at in the centre of Birmingham. It's an informal gathering of like minded people, with a couple of speakers presenting tips, techniques and information on old, new and upcoming technology. We like to get a mixture of world leading speakers as well as providing an opportunity for our members to present.
We tailor the speakers and sessions to your requests so if you have any specific topics that you want to go through, then come along and let us know.
If you've registered for an event and can no longer make it, please do unregister so that we don't over order the food! To unregister just view your tickets in your EventBrite account, and then cancel the relevant ticket. Thanks!
This event is kindly sponsored by Purple Frog Systems, if you need any Microsoft Business Intelligence help (Data Warehouses, ETL, Cubes, Azure, IoT, etc.), give them a call!
