This course is for women and birthing people planning to give birth at The Royal London Hospital.

We recommend you aim to participate in these classes when you are around 26-30 weeks pregnant.
Course content:
Session 1: Birth settings, preparing for birth, discuss breathing techniques and ideas for supporters if you have them.
Session 2: Physiology of labour and birth, coping with labour, positions that may help, when to leave home and how to travel
Session 3: Deviations from physiological labour, medical interventions, induction of labour, both medical and natural and your choices. Methods of pain relief available at home and in your birth place.
Session 4: What to expect in the postnatal period; postnatal care and recovery and care of the newborn, including safe sleeping recomendations.
Each class lasts approximately two hours, including breaks. Each class lasts approximately two hours, including breaks. The date booked is the date of youe first session, with the other sessions running over the consecutive weeks on the same day of the week and time. All classes are held in our Parent Education Room, which can be found on the left hand side of our Postnatal Ward (8f) on the 8th Floor of the Royal London Hospital.
The course aims to be an interactive, safe space for you to ask questions and actively participate.
