About this event

This course is for women and birthing people booked to give birth at Whipps Cross hospital.

Please book ONE ticket per couple (You and your support person)

Please cancel your ticket promptly if no longer required, so that someone else can book a space.

We recommend you aim to participate in these classes when you are around 30-32 weeks pregnant.


The whole course consists of 3 sessions:


  1. Physiology of labour
  2. Medical interventions
  3. Postnatal period and looking after newborn baby


Please book these sessions separately. Each class lasts approximately two - two and a half hours, including break.


Session 1 - Physiology of labour.

In this session you will learn about:

  • Birth settings in Whipps Cross Hospital
  • Preparing for labour
  • Perineal massage
  • Physiology of labour
  • Hormones in labour
  • Using non-pharmacological methods in coping with labour
  • Positions in labour
  • When is the best time to come to hospital?
  • Monitoring maternal’s and baby’s wellbeing in labour

Please book yourself for our Breastfeeding/Colostrum harvesting classes as well!

The course aims to be an interactive, safe space for you to ask questions and actively participate.
