Event description

Description

2017 is a very special year for Baha’is, as it represents 200 years since the birth of Baha’u’llah, the founder of the Bahá’í Faith. Bahá’í communities around the globe will be marking this historic year with a variety of festive occasions, and Southwark will do so by holding a celebration on 21 October, from 7 to 9.30 pm, at Ark Walworth Academy. This event will be an occasion to rejoice at the two-hundred-year anniversary since Bahá’u’lláh brought divine guidance to humanity, to achieve the unity of the whole human race:

“The tabernacle of unity hath been raised; regard ye not one another as strangers. Ye are the fruits of one tree, and the leaves of one branch.”

Many people from a variety of backgrounds, races and religions around the world have been contributing to grassroots activities to lay the groundwork for the achievement of unity for the human race. All these activities are led by the desire to implement divine guidance. While they draw on the Teachings of Baha’u’llah, the founder of the Baha’i Faith, they are not intended to provide religious instruction. Instead, the Writings of the Baha’i Faith are used to guide and inform discussions on how we can live happier lives and better serve our communities.

These activities include the development of children’s classes, aimed at enabling the future generation to reveal their innate virtues and skills; junior youth groups, supporting those aged 12 – 15 to take responsibility for their moral and spiritual development and serve their communities; devotional gatherings, to provide a space to reflect on spiritual matters and their importance in our lives and the world around us; and study circles, bringing people from all backgrounds, races and beliefs together to develop capacity to serve our communities.

The event on 21 October will be open to everyone in the community and we would love for you, your friends and family to join us in this very happy occasion. Our aim is to showcase the activities which are currently thriving by celebrating the diversity of approaches, beliefs, talents and experiences each individual can contribute. The celebration will also include a film on the Personage of Baha’u’llah and His Teachings. A trailer is available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Du72xUajJQI&t=3s
