Event description

Description

Emma - "We absolutely loved the workshop! It was practical, easy to follow, really informative and focused on tips, tools and techniques to help us prepare for labour. My partner didn't expect to learn so much and is now really confident about how to be with me for labour and was very impressed. I feel incredibly confident that whatever faces us we'll be able to cope with it."

The full day Complete Birth Knowledge workshop is really everything you need to know about labour & birth. The morning covers more of the theory behind birth and gives you the lowdown on why doing all the practical stuff is so important.

This birth preparation workshop is open to couples or pregnant mums on their own. Most mums come between 25-36 weeks into their pregnancy but it is suitable at any point in your pregnancy.

  • The 31 benefits of having an “Active Birth” - easier, safer, more efficient and less painful
  • The 3 stages of labour
  • Understanding the complete birth process:
    • how the baby moves through the pelvis
    • what contractions do, how they feel and how to cope with them
    • what hormones do and why they are important
  • The importance of a "Good Birth Environment"
  • The crucial role of the birth partner, with 5 key tasks for being the perfect birth partner
  • What to do if labour slows down

In the afternoon we cover Practical Birth Skills, teaching lots of practical tips for coping with labour & birth with time to practice.

  • Try different birth positions, using movement, partner support and birth balls
  • Birth partner skills – massage, rebozo, physical support
  • Breathing & Relaxation techniques
  • Emotional techniques to help you cope
  • Briefly discussion of pain relief options - both natural and medical
  • What happens in the "golden hour" after the baby is born

Also included in the full day workshop is a copy of Preparing for Active Birth Handbook by Janet Balaskas (RRP £4.99, plus a free birth ball and pump - essential equipment to prepare for labour and birth - worth £15), and a follow-up phone or Skype call.

Please bring anything that will make you more comfortable, and wear flexible clothes. I will provide mats, birth balls, cushions, bean bags.

Tea and snacks will be provided but you'll need to take care of lunch. You are welcome to bring a packed lunch to eat at the venue or go out for lunch.
