Description

The 2019 British & Irish Society for Oral Medicine Winter Meeting will be held at the Birmingham Dental Hospital on Saturday 30th November 2019. This year's theme will be Behçet's Syndrome and we have a very exciting and varied programme. Birmingham is home to one of the three Behçet's Syndrome Centres of Excellence in the UK, therefore we are lucky to be able to work alongside many different experts in the field of Behçets. We have the pleasure of welcoming the following speakers for the morning session:

  • Dr Deva Situnayake, Consultant Rheumatologist at City Hospital in Birmingham. He will be giving an overview of Behçets and thoughts on whether it is a syndrome or a disease.

  • Dr Priyanka Chandratre, Consultant Rheumatologist at City Hospital in Birmingham. She will be discussing the challenges and approaches to treatment in Behçets.

  • Dr Sreekanth Sreekantam, Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Birmingham Midland Eye Centre. His talk will focus on the ocular manifestations of Behçets and the challenges faced.

  • Dr Arul Sivaguru, Consultant Neurologist at City Hospital in Birmingham. He will be discussing Neurobehçets and headache.

  • Rebecca Hyder, Behçet's Support Co-ordinator at Birmingham Behçet's National Centre of Excellence. Her talk will focus on navigating employment difficulties and other life challenges for patients with Behçets.

The afternoon will consist of oral presentations of case reports and original research/audit. All attendees including undergraduates are encouraged to submit abstracts to alexandra.perks1@nhs.net.

Prizes are available for the best postgraduate and best undergraduate presentations. There is also the opportunity to display posters and a poster prize is available. Please see prize regulations for more details.
