Event description

Description

BITCH LIT is a monthly book club devoted to new feminist writing and cult classics by women. Join us for endless wine, cheese and irreverent, fun discussion led by literary critic Lucy Scholes and Gower Street's Elizabeth Morris.

For our final book club of 2017, on December 7th, we will be discussing Sylvia Townsend Warners 1926 novel Lolly Willowes, about a twenty-eight-year-old spinster, who, after years of self-effacement as a maiden aunt, she decides to break free and moves to a small village. Here, happy and unfettered, she enjoys her new existence nagged only by the sense of a secret she has yet to discover. That secret is witchcraft, and with her cat and a pact with the Devil, Lolly Willowes is finally free.Deliciously wry and inviting, this novel was Sylvia Townsend Warner’s piquant plea that single women find liberty and civility.

Numbers strictly limited, please book promptly to avoid disappointment. Tickets are £5/3 (students), include wine and cheese. Book online, in store or by phoning 020 7636 1577.
