About this event
Tutor Ruth Jacobs leads this enjoyable and informative one-day photographic workshop for beginners:
Spend the day practising darkroom techniques and processes; developing film, making contact sheets and printing enlargements, all in beautiful black and white. Just bring your black and white film ready to process, darkroom chemistry and photographic paper is included in the fee. No previous experience necessary - perfect for beginners or anyone wanting to refresh darkroom skills.

The workshop takes place at the spacious and well-equipped community darkrooms at St Pauls Learning Centre which is fully accessible and open to the public 7 days a week.
Places limited to 7 for comfort and safety, so please book early to avoid disappointment!
FAQs
How are you keeping the Darkrooms Covid safe?
We have improved our ventilation during lockdown and keep all our surfaces sanitised. Tutors will wear face visors and workshop participants are asked to wear masks. Gloves, soap, hand sanitiser and wipes are available at the Darkrooms. Surfaces and equipment are cleaned regularly.
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
Young people over 14 years old are are welcome on the workshop. Real Photography Company tutors are fully qualified and DBS checked.
What should I bring with me to the workshop?
Please bring an exposed black and white film ready to develop - any 35mm or 120mm black and white film is fine, except XP2 which uses a colour process not available at the darkrooms.
Can you accommodate medium format?
Yes, we have the facilities for you to develop your medium format film and print from medium format negatives.
What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from St Pauls Learning Centre?
Parking at St Pauls Learning Centre is limited, however on street parking at weekends is free of charge. There are regular bus services along Stokes Croft, a short walk away, and the No.5 goes along nearby City Rd through St Pauls. Bristol Bus Station is about 15 mins on foot.
What about lunch / refreshments?
Glen's Cafe is open for delicious Caribbean food, or you can bring your own packed lunch. You can help yourself to tea, coffee, and biscuits at any time during the day at the darkrooms.

What's the refund policy?
You can have a refund up to 7 days before the workshop. After that you can have a refund if your place on the workshop can be sold to another participant before the start date. The eventbrite booking fee is non-refundable, sorry!
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
Please bring proof of registration on paper, phone or tablet.
Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?
Please don't pass your ticket on to someone else unless you are buying it as a present.
