BGBOOKCLUB is incredibly proud to announce that after the runaway success of our very first black girls are magic book club brunch we are presenting part two!
The topic of discussion we will be the extraordinary classic I KNOW WHY THE CAGED BIRD SINGS by the incomparable Maya Angelou.
In the spirit of traditional book clubs we will be sending copies in advance - giving you opportunity to read (or for some of you reintroduce and revisit) the story and get to know the fantastic characters
what to expect:
You will receive the book and menu choices within 3 weeks of registration.
If you already have the book and do not want another copy you can choose the brunch+booze option. Please note this option does not include a goody bag.
who we are:
Black Girls Book Club (or bad gal book club, if you're nasty) is a collective of black women seeking to create a platform that allows us to celebrate our excellence and discuss our experiences with likeminded girls who are navigating life as a millennial in the city.
We want to bring together a community of women and girls allowing them to network in a safe haven where they can chill, chat and catch plenty plenty vibes.
Every attendee of the black girls are magic brunch will receive:
Entrance to the brunch venue which will be held in a private dining setting with its own bar
Brunch + Booze.
what you need to know:
Whilst the black girls are magic brunch is a celebration of black women it is open to all who wish to attend. However, please be aware that our mission is to create a space which allows black women to come together on a positive vibe and we will not tolerate any individual who seeks to derail that. BGBOOKCLUB is a judgement free zone and as such as we want to create an environment that allows us to be great, open and honest without any fear of backlash.

about the author:
Maya Angelou was born as Marguerite Johnson on April 4th, 1928, in St. Louis, Missouri and raised in St. Louis and Stamps, Arkansas. Maya Angelou became one of the most renowned and influential voices of our time. With over 50 honorary doctorate degrees Dr. Maya Angelou became a celebrated poet, memoirist, educator, dramatist, producer, actress, historian, filmmaker, and civil rights activist.
In the late 1950’s Maya Angelou joined the Harlem Writer’s Guild. With the guidance of her friend, the novelist James Baldwin, she began work on the book that would become I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. Published in 1970, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings received international acclaim made the bestseller list. The book was also banned in many schools during that time as Maya Angelou’s honesty about having been sexually abused opened a subject matter that had long been taboo in the culture. Later,I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings would become a course adoption at college campuses around the world. With more than 30 bestselling titles, Maya Angelou has written 36 books.
