About this event

Join us for a weekend of sisterhood and adventure, exploring Dartmoor in Devon, famous for its ponies, tors and rivers. We’ve hired out YHA Okehampton, nestled within woodlands on the edge of the National Park for a weekend of hiking, kayaking, gorge walking, crafts and yoga.

Price: £275 (+ Ticket fees)

Based on shared room accommodation, maximum occupancy 6. All meals included in the price including a packed lunch.

Arrive from 5pm on Friday 22nd July

*A full detailed itinerary will be provided on arrival; all activities are suitable for beginners. The Watersports activities are delivered by approved providers, wetsuits and all safety equipment are included*

Friday: Welcome & ice breakers, dinner, paint & sip

Saturday: Early morning yoga, breakfast, kayaking, gorge walking, BBQ

*Members will be split into two groups for activities, swapping at lunch. Transport to the activities is provided.

Sunday: Yoga, breakfast, hiking

Finish: 15:00

Can I come to Black Girls Hike?

As the name suggests, this is a safe space for Black/Mixed Race cis and trans women and non-binary people of Black African and / or Caribbean descent who are comfortable in a space that centres the experiences of Black women. We are not a BAME, POC, BIPOC, WOC, Politically Black or Ally organisation.

Do you provide transport?

No, you will need to make your own way there. The closest stations are Okehampton/Exeter St Davids

What do I need to bring?

*This is a rough guide and not an exhaustive list. The weather can change quickly so its best to be prepared. Remember your comfy clothes to relax in as well as your outdoor kit. Wetsuits and safety equipment are provided by the instructors.

• General, for all activities

o Sunscreen (optimistic 😊)

o Warm clothes, including hat & gloves

o Any medication required

o Towel

Watersports Activities

o 2 Pairs of footwear, trainers for in the water and a dry pair.

• NOTE: Participants must wear trainers for watersports activities, crocs, welly boots, sandals or flip flops are not sufficient.

o Warm clothes for afterwards.

o Gorge Scrambling & Kayaking: Shorts & t-shirt to wear over your wetsuit.

o Swim wear – for use under a wetsuit if required.

o Towel

Land Activities

o Waterproof Jacket & trousers

o Appropriate attire for the predicted weather. For all land activities we recommend long trousers.

o Warm jumper or fleece, long sleeves

o Walking boots with ankle support.

(Our catering is provided by Danes Caribbean Caterers *please note there will be male staff on site)

COVID-19 Compliance

As we’ll be staying in shared accommodation to make sure all our guests feel comfortable, we are asking that all guests confirm their COVID status by taking a Lateral Flow Test on arrival if they can't provide an NHS COVID Pass via the NHS App, showing:

• You’ve had both doses of the vaccine

• A Negative PCR or Lateral Flow Test from that has been taken in the last 48 hours

• Proof of natural immunity

*If you are unable to attend due to COVID, you’ll be issued with a full refund, which will require proof*
