Newly established design duo Masa Mez, founded by Amy Brar and Ilayda Kal, debuts at the London Design Festival with Black Gold, an intimate, one-night-only sensory experience set inside the iconic Algha's Works warehouse in Hackney Wick.
In a meticulously designed setting, taste, sound, and storytelling merge to explore urgent questions of consumption, climate shifts, and our collective futures. Inspired by black pepper — once worth its weight in gold, now a ubiquitous kitchen staple — Black Gold transforms this everyday spice into the lens through which we explore these critical themes.
On arrival, guests are greeted with a bespoke Black Gold cocktail by Bar Lotus, the global mixology powerhouse. From there, the experience unfolds in three distinct acts, guiding a journey through an evolving tablescape and a bespoke menu of small bites created in collaboration with London-based culinary creative, Studio LELOK. Every moment is crafted to shift perspectives from the plate to the soundscape, inviting reflection on the way we eat, remember, and connect.
Black Gold is a living artwork, a conversation starter, and the launch of Masa Mez’s mission: to create critical, collaborative experiences that merge design, culture, and sensory storytelling.
