Event description

Description

The room has been booked from 1815, but attendees should arrive at 1800 for a short introductory talk on the film and project outside the room.

This 25 minute film is being shown as part if The University of Huddersfield's Black History Month. It examines the history and experiences of the first generation of Black Caribbean and South Asian pupils to be educated in Huddersfield with a specific focus on dispersal bussing. This was a policy that saw immigrant children, as they were known at the time, sent to attend schools that were often miles away from their homes. The film features interviews with four individuals who were bussed in Huddersfield, and with two former educators from the town. Their testimonies are presented alongside archival evidence which includes footage from a BBC Panorama film on 'Racial Problems in Huddersfield' that was aired in 1969.
