Debut author Kit De Waal talks about her critically acclaimed new novel My Name is Leon.
A brother chosen. A brother left behind. And a family where you'd least expect to find one. Evoking a Britain of the early eighties, My Name is Leon is a heart-breaking story of love, identity and learning to overcome unbearable loss. Of the fierce bond between siblings. And how - just when we least expect it - we manage to find our way home.
Kit De Waal has a philosophy of writing about "...what you know to be true". She certainly has with My Name is Leon. Kit is a former Social Services adviser on the care of foster children, a family lawyer and has first hand experience of growing up with foster children as her mother was a foster carer.
