Event description

Description

Scotland and Slavery in the West Indies

The Union of 1707 facilitated Scotland’s entry into British slavery in the West Indies. This involvement was used to increase the wealth of Scotland, and also allowed Scots to “better themselves” financially as quickly as possible. New and important historical links between Scotland and West Indian slavery islands, such as Jamaica, will be presented in this talk by Sir Geoff Palmer.
