About this event

Community • Heritage

Whilst we quite rightly celebrate the ‘Windrush generation’ who arrived from the Caribbean to the UK in 1948 we sometimes forget that the presence of and contributions to this country of black people dates back hundreds of years to the Roman occupation! In the past this contribution has on too many occasions been overlooked and forgotten. However, in this walk we will open a window on a small part of the rich and interesting history of Black people in London. We will encounter heroes and heroines of war, Black Georgians, Black anti-slavery campaigners as well as those who struggled for justice in the 20th century and those who continue to do so.
