Join us at this VIRTUAL launch as we draw from contemporary newspapers, historical archives, the writings of descendants, schools, government files, and memoirs, as we share an in-depth study of the role of Black people in British history between 1830 and 1940. Despite rarely being contextualised in their age, they did not solely exist as stigmatised outsiders; they participated in British society as scientists, teachers, government officials, tradespeople, and in many other roles.
