Description:
Welcome to the Black Men-Talk Health (BMTH) Village, a vital, inspiring and important event focusing on Men of the African-Caribbean's Mental Health and Wellbeing!
Join us for an empowering and uplifting evening promoting positive mental well-being among Men from the African-Caribbean Diaspora. The BMTH is a safe space where we, as melanated men, can come together to share our experiences, connect with one other as well as learn about the tools and resources that can help us prioritize our mental health.
By joining the village, you'll join an open, caring, supportive community of men that have congregated to discuss the unique challenges that Men of the African-Caribbean Diaspora face daily. By the end of the session, you'll leave with tools and resources to enhance your mental and emotional well-being to empower you in your journey towards healing.
Our sessions are uniquely designed to cater to the needs of melanated men in Britain who may have reservations about seeking mental health support and provide signposts through-out the session. We understand the importance of creating a safe and nurturing environment where participants can feel comfortable expressing themselves without fear of judgment. Throughout this inspirational event, we hope to empower and uplift men by raising awareness of the importance of mental wellness.
Throughout the evening, we will have a series of thought-provoking discussions including:
• Stigmas and barriers associated with mental health and how we internalise them,
• Discussions on masculinity, what it means to be a man and our mindsets,
• A deep delve into our minds to reflect, promote healing and increase positive mental health,
• Creating support systems within the community using peer-to-peer development to support self-development, reduce negative emotions and increase accountability,
This event is built from the ground up for us by us with our issues at the centre! This space is open to all African-Caribbean men regardless of age, background, ethnicity, religion, identity (Cisgender, Transgender and Non-Binary welcome) or experience with therapy as we understand men do not have a homogenous experience and all need support.
Together we will build a community of trust and understanding as we journey together towards better mental health creating a stronger and more resilient community for black men. Please join us in our third series of insightful, potent and empowering conversations that we hope will help break down the many barriers that we encounter daily. Whether you are facing mental health challenges, supporting a loved one, or simply wanting to increase your understanding of mental health, this transformative event is for you. Come join us on this journey towards better mental health and well-being!

Frequently asked questions
Yes, this space has been built specifically for Black men by Black men focusing on our African-Caribbean experiences. We understand all Men struggle with mental health, but this space is for Black Men who are often overlooked and under supported in the mental health space (with plans to diversity).
The space is open and welcome to anyone who identifies as a man regardless of whether you're Cisgender, Transgender, Intersex or Non-Binary (AMAB). We understand Men's experiences are not homogenous so we want to create an open, caring, nurturing environment to support as many Men as possible.
No, asking this misses the point of this space. The BMTH is a space to fill the cups of those who come with an empty cup and for those with a full cup to give from theirs if they want. It is a space for all of us to fill our cups and quench our emotional, mental and physical wellbeing thirst.
Throughout the session, we will be mixing-up physical activities with digital exercises using audience interaction software, so it is advisable to bring a charged device to participate (phone or tablet preferably) as well as your best-self most importantly to get the most out of the sessions.
This event is a safe space for African-Caribbean Men to open up and speak their truth, everything said in the space is sacred and will not be shared outside of it. There will be photos and videos taken (with no sound apart from my speeches), if you do not wish to be filmed let us know on the night.
We operate the "Chatham House Rules" which means what is said in the BMTH stays in there, nothing you say will be shared outside of the space by us or other men without your consent. Remember we are all here for the same reason, to heal, thrive and grow with accountability together.
The event is being hosted at the University of Westminster (Cavendish Campus), 115 New Cavendish Street, London, W1W 6UW. The closest stations are Warren Street and Goodge Street Station which is a 10-minute walk from the station. If you're using What3Words, the location is "luxury.lung.code".
Yes, the venue is accessible from the street to the venue rooms with ramps outside and lifts throughout the building with nearby toilets, if you need specific support please do not hesitate to contact us.
There will be light snacks provided in the session such as fruit and crisps, it is advisable to bring some water (there are refill stations for reusable bottles in the University) and you are welcome to bring food with you, we'll also be eating together at an optional post-session pizza restaurant.
At present the optional post-event meal (usually pizza or noodles) is not free or funded (yet), it will cost between £6-12. Also if you do not want to eat and still want to hang out you are more than welcome to, there is no pressure to pay.
Whilst the space is focused specifically on the African-Caribbean and Black British Experience, we welcome non-AC people who want to learn more about AC men's mental health, have AC family members or themselves struggle with mental health to get in touch as we will be creating shared spaces soon.
