Event description
Twice weekly sessions will explore & create a interactive theatre performance exploring the themes of Mental Health, Depression & Suicide

About this Event

I have been commissioned by Lambeth Suicide Prevention Partnership to produce a theatre performance that highlights issues of mental health for black men aged 30 - 60 years.

In England, 13 people take their lives every day: with men particularly at risk. In Lambeth, around two residents die by suicide each month, with many more people making suicide attempts. Difficult economic circumstances, loneliness, drugs and alcohol, self-harm, trauma and mental health issues, all play a part. The consequences of each death on our families and communities are devastating and long- lasting. Each suicide affects on average ten additional people.

I've taken on this project to create an interactive drama performance that explores mental health, depression and suicide. Participants will develop skills in performing arts, research, interviewing, facilitating, devising and rehearsing.

The project uses Theatre of the Oppressed techniques, improvisation and storytelling to alleviate isolation, anxiety, depression and stress. Participants will develop plans to create change within their mental health which will act as a catalyst to promote health and wellbeing and strengthen skills and local knowledge, particularly about how to access support.

Weekly sessions will be playful, memorable and fun!
