This masterclass, led by Berlin-based freelance dancer and choreographer Po-Nien Wang (he/him), blends Contemporary, Ballet, and Chinese martial arts techniques to create a distinctive hybrid movement language. Participants will explore the transitions from stillness to dynamic interaction, gaining insight into Po-Nien’s creative process and physical vocabulary.
The session is divided into two parts. The first focuses on grounding and breath work inspired by Chinese martial arts: preparing the body through circular movements, spiralling sequences, and deep core connection, supported by Contemporary and Ballet foundations. The aim is to cultivate an available body that supports self-expression and imagination.
In the second part, Po-Nien will share the working methods behind his solo in Black Mountains (choreographed by Fabrizio Favale). Drawing from nature and science fiction, participants will step into a fantastical world where curiosity, sensitivity, and playfulness are encouraged.
