About this event

Brixton is the heart of Black Britain. This early morning guided walking tour when it is quieter will allow you take in the history, heritage and achievement of notable Black artists, activists, musicians, writers, business owners and record breakers.

You will visit the only building in Lambeth (except County Hall) to have two blue plaques and hear how your guide was involved in the second of them. You'll spot the different styles, shapes and placings of plaques, spot some you might not know and hear about the people whose lives influence the spaces between them.

You'll explore who gets a plaque and why and discuss who you would commemorate. Please feel free share memories of places and people in this community walk to mark Black History Month.

Please meet outside Herne Hill for a 10am start. This walk takes 2 hours and concludes at Brixton Station Road.
