About this event
The Black Rainbow Cabaret is a dynamic and inclusive event that plays a central role in our Black History Month celebrations. Scheduled for Wednesday 29th October in the Creative Centre Auditorium, this vibrant evening brings together students and staff from across the university to honour and explore themes of race equality through artistic expression.
Organised as part of the Events and Experience Management BA (Hons) Level 6 assessment, specifically within the BMB6003M Strategic Decisions for Sports and Events Business module, the cabaret is far more than a performance. It serves as a platform for creativity, reflection, and connection. Participants are invited to showcase their talents in music, dance, spoken word, poetry, visual art, and other forms of expression. Whether you are a seasoned performer or someone sharing your voice for the first time, the Black Rainbow Cabaret offers a welcoming and supportive space to be heard and celebrated.
At its core, the cabaret is about storytelling. It provides an opportunity to amplify diverse voices and lived experiences, particularly those from Black communities and other marginalised groups. Through creative expression, the event aims to foster greater understanding, empathy, and dialogue within our university community. Performances will reflect a wide range of perspectives, from personal journeys and cultural heritage to themes of social justice and identity.
Designed to be both celebratory and thought-provoking, the cabaret is a space where joy, resilience, and resistance come together. Audiences can expect an evening filled with powerful performances, moving stories, and moments of inspiration. The event also encourages active participation, inviting attendees to engage with the themes presented and reflect on their own roles in promoting inclusion and equity.
Importantly, the Black Rainbow Cabaret is a collaborative effort. It is shaped by the contributions of students, staff, and community members who bring their creativity, passion, and perspectives to the stage. Level 6 Events and Experience Management students are responsible for planning and delivering the event as part of their academic assessment, gaining valuable real-world experience in event production, audience engagement, and inclusive programming.
This hands-on learning opportunity allows students to apply their skills in a meaningful context, while also contributing to the university’s broader commitment to race equality and cultural celebration. The event is supported by academic staff and university services, ensuring a professional and impactful experience for both performers and audience members.
Everyone—regardless of background or discipline—is encouraged to attend, participate, and support this important initiative. Whether you are performing, volunteering, or simply enjoying the show, your presence helps to build a more inclusive and connected university community.
