A great opportunity to get into the darkroom and improve your black and white printing, and try some creative processes, with expert photography tutor, Ruth Jacobs.

Starts on Thurs 9 Nov 6 - 8.30pm

Book for 5 weeks at £80

  • This enjoyable and informative course is perfect for anyone wanting to learn more about black and white printing techniques. You will be able to try out different enlargers, creative processes and chemistry, with plenty of help and support through every stage so you can produce beautiful prints.

  • Darkroom equipment, photographic film, paper and chemistry will be explained so that you will feel confident using the darkroom following the course.

  • We will look at some alternative processes such as cyanotype, and experiment with print toning; eg. sepia or iron toning effects.

  • Course fee includes darkroom chemistry, please provide your own photographic paper and films, 35mm or medium format welcome.

  • The course will take place at the spacious and well-equipped community darkrooms at St Pauls Learning Centre which is fully accessible and open to the public 7 days a week. Places are limited.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to participate in this course?

Participants should be aged 16 and over.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Parking at St Pauls Learning Centre is limited, however on street parking after 5pm is free of charge. There are regular bus services along Stokes Croft, a short walk away, and the No.5 goes along nearby City Rd through St Pauls.

What should I bring with me to the course?

Please bring any films you would like to process and your own photographic paper.

What materials are covered by the course fees?

All film developing and printing chemistry is covered by the course fee, including cyanotype and toning chemistry. Fibre based paper will also be available to try, free of charge.

What's the refund policy?

You can have a full refund if your place on the course can be sold to another participant before the start date.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Please bring proof of registration on paper or your smartphone.

Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?

Please don't pass your ticket on to someone else unless you are buying it as a present.
