About this Event

Black Women and Books – Zoom Webinar Organised by the Feminist Library and BookLove Thursday 26th November from 7 PM* The event is free for those who cannot afford to contribute, but spaces are limited so please do donate if you can.The Feminist Library is collaborating with BookLove, an online Multicultural Travelling Carnival and shop, to organise an exciting series of online events around Black women in the business of books!

The first in the series, ‘Black Women and Books’, will take place on Zoom on Thursday 26th November from 7 PM. We will be exploring some of the many aspects of the Book Trade through the eyes of Black Women who work within it. This fascinating event will trace the journey a book goes on to get from writer to reader.

If you are keen to discover something new about some of the ‘not-so-obvious’ areas of the book world, then this interesting and timely discussion promises not to disappoint.

Our panel of speakers includes:

Margaret Busby, publisher, editor of New Daughters of Africa

Kandace Chimbiri, self-publisher, children’s author, The Story of the Windrush

Dee, founder of the Black Feminist Bookshop

Kadija Sesay, literary activist, editor and publisher

Professor Wangui Wa Goro, social critic, researcher, translator and cultural catalyst.

The event moderator will be Samantha Williams, founder of BookLove, who will be speaking to, in her words, her, ‘dream team of women’.

The Library strives to make its (online and offline) spaces as safe and accessible as possible. Please do let us know if there is anything that we can do to make these sessions more accessible.

The Feminist Library has organised a series of online events during the last few months. These include a webinar series on the theme of ‘Care’, International Queer Solidarity meetings, book clubs, and a Black History Month event and online exhibition, WE ARE HERE!, which continues throughout November.

This is BookLove Carnival and online shop is an award winning collective which brings together the best multicultural content to schools, nurseries, public and corporate spaces, markets... you name it - we're there!

BookLove has curated a Booklist with titles selected by Feminist Library volunteers and our panellists. In celebration, BookLove is offering a 5% discount code when these books are bought from www.thisisbooklove.com throughout November.

Please quote BOOKLOVEFEMLIBRARY at the checkout for a special one-off discount on selected books found in the Feminist sub-category at: https://www.thisisbooklove.com/feminist-library
