Blackford Pond and the wetland area beside it under Blackford Hill are important for water birds such as swan, little grebe, heron, pochard, moorhen, coot, mallard and tufted duck. The island provides a safe place for the swan and mallard to nest, whilst moorhen and coot nest along the edge of the pond where reeds provide extra cover.

Details of the pond work we will carry out is still to be confirmed, but often we remove excess reeds from pond margins to prevent it dominating the open water.

We encourage volunteers to use our minibus for transport. If you live near this task and wish to make your own way you must ring Debbie on 01313370223 to book a space and for joining instructions.

Please bring your lunch and wear appropriate footwear (boots or wellingtons) and waterproof outdoor clothing.
